In recent years, the image of fishing boats of fishing union members still steadfastly breaking the waves out to sea has become a symbol of solidarity and the will to stick to the sea.
To date, the whole country has developed 120 grassroots Fisheries Trade Unions in 18 coastal provinces and cities with nearly 23,000 members with over 6,000 fishing vessels, mainly fishing in offshore fishing grounds.
This is not only the core force in marine economic development but is also likened to "living milestones", contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Despite the unpredictable world situation, many fishing vessels of the Union still strive to do business effectively.
Typically, at Tam Quang Fisheries Union (Da Nang), right from the beginning of 2026, many fishing vessels have continuously "hit big" with revenue of over 1 billion VND per sea trip, bringing stable income to workers.
Or at Cam Nhuong Fisheries Union (Ha Tinh), typical union members who strictly comply with legal regulations and support each other in production have received timely praise and encouragement from all levels and sectors.
Faced with the current difficulties, the Vietnam Fisheries Union has proactively performed the role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of fishermen.
The unit has actively advised the Vietnam Agriculture and Environment Trade Union to propose to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to have policies and concerns to support the activities of the national fishing trade union and the lives and safety of fishing workers.
In addition to policy recommendations, the Trade Union also focuses on:
Legal propaganda: Promoting the dissemination of regulations against IUU fishing, guiding fishermen to comply with regulations on VMS journey monitoring and recording electronic fishing logs to jointly remove the EC "yellow card".
Humanitarian support: Coordinate with the Vietnam Fisheries Humanitarian Fund to visit, give gifts and provide emergency support to fishermen's families in difficult circumstances, affected by natural disasters and accidents at sea.
Connecting the community: Connecting grassroots trade unions to share fishing experiences and support each other when encountering incidents at sea, creating collective solidarity.
Although many positive results have been achieved in changing fishermen's awareness of complying with the Law on Fisheries and regulations, for fisheries to develop sustainably, the Trade Union's activities still need stronger attention.
The Vietnam Fisheries Trade Union has requested local Sub-Departments managing seafood to strengthen coordination and establish close contact points to promptly receive and remove difficulties for fishermen.
At the same time, through major events such as the first Vietnam Fisheries Science and Technology Exhibition (VinaFIS Expo 2026), in coordination with the Vietnam Fisheries Humanitarian Fund, the Vietnam Fisheries Society calls on organizations, businesses and philanthropists to join hands to support and add resources so that fishermen can feel secure in sticking to the sea.

The companionship of all levels, sectors and communities is not only a source of material encouragement but also a solid spiritual support, encouraging fishermen to continue going offshore, both enriching their homeland and maintaining the country's sea and island sovereignty.
