Nearly 40 times of donating blood to save lives
Nguyen Thi Huong Giang (officer of the Ninh Binh Provincial Youth Union) was born in 1991 and started participating in voluntary blood donation from the first days of her university entrance exam. To date, this small, beautiful girl has participated in voluntary blood donation 38 times.
Giang shared that right after the opening of the new school year, the school organized a blood donation program for the whole school. As a first-year student, partly out of curiosity, partly because I like volunteer activities, I participated in blood donation.
At first, my parents objected because they thought that donating blood would greatly affect their health and were unsafe. But thanks to the knowledge I have learned during my activities at the Hanoi Youth Volunteer Blood Donation Campaign Team, I have been convinced and changed my parents' mindset. I also invited my sister to participate, and up to now, my sister has also donated blood to save lives 15 times.
At first, when I participated in blood donation, I just thought this was one of the normal volunteer activities. But after interacting with pediatric patients at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, I felt that the drops of blood I gave them were very important for patients, Giang said.
As for health, donate blood
The most memorable memory of my blood donations was the time I participated in direct blood donation at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. At that time, the volunteer team of the school was assigned to the Central Institute of Blood Transfusion to write a letter of thanks to those who donated blood. At this time, the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion was organizing a periodic blood donation program, so I immediately joined.
I still remember, after donating blood, I met a patient about 10 years old being treated here. Seeing her, the child asked, "You just donated blood, so you get a blood transfusion? Thank you. A normal saying but contains a lot of hope because the amount of blood stored is always lacking, not enough to meet treatment needs, there are many patients who have to wait every day to have blood for infusion. Those patients are the source of motivation for me to continue to participate in blood donation. At the same time, it encourages friends and relatives to actively participate" - Giang said.
Talking about her future plans, Nguyen Thi Huong Giang said that for people participating in voluntary blood donation like Giang, "Every drop of blood given, a life stays" - this is the slogan of the voluntary blood donation movement, this slogan has followed her for the past 15 years and will certainly follow her throughout her journey in the future.
"Many people ask me how long I will participate in blood donation, I affirm that if I am still healthy, I will also participate in blood donation, not only me but also the people around me" - Nguyen Thi Huong Giang affirmed.
