Get more benefits when joining a union
Mr. Le Tan Luu - Chairman of the Motorbike Taxi and Technology Vehicle Union of Binh Tan District - said that the union was established in April 2020 with 25 members.
After nearly 5 years of operation, the union now has over 1,000 participants, divided into two groups that have paid monthly union dues (300 people) and the remaining group that has not paid union dues.
Mr. Luu added that at first, the brothers were still hesitant, but when they saw that joining the union received a lot of care from the Trade Union organization, they were very excited and enthusiastic.
For union members who have paid union dues, benefits are clearly different. For example, they are supported with 200,000 VND each time their account is locked; those whose parents have passed away are supported with 500,000 VND, and those who get married are given 500,000 VND.
If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident, depending on the severity, you will receive support from several hundred thousand to a maximum of 5 million VND/case from the union's budget, not to mention that you will donate additional support.
See clearly the benefits of joining a union
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Chairman of the Binh Tan District Labor Federation - said that Binh Tan is a district with a large number of workers, including many workers in the informal sector who want to join the Vietnam Trade Union to have their rights protected and taken care of.
In 2024 alone, Binh Tan District Labor Federation established 4 unions (achieving 400% of the target), admitted 4,907 union members (achieving 3,300% of the target).
In total, Binh Tan District Labor Federation has established and managed 17 unions with nearly 7,100 union members.
According to Mr. Hai, to attract freelance workers to join the union, it is necessary to make them clearly see that when joining the union, their rights will be protected and they will enjoy many benefits through the caring activities of the union organization.
Along with that, it is necessary to seek the support of Party committees, People's Committees, Police, wards and organizations to mobilize workers staying in rented accommodation to join the union.
Ms. Le Thi Kim Thuy - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation - said that in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City trade unions at all levels established 27 unions, reaching 900% of the assigned target.
According to Ms. Thuy, informal workers often have precarious jobs, unstable incomes, and lack basic social security. Therefore, a thorough survey and a firm grasp of the current situation of this group of workers in each locality is a key factor in union development.
Areas with a high concentration of informal workers such as industrial parks, boarding houses, traditional markets and free service areas (technology motorbike taxis, street vendors) need to be prioritized in the union development plan.
At the same time, it is necessary to let workers clearly see the practical benefits of joining a trade union such as legal protection, social security support, loans, health insurance, free vocational training and cultural and social activities to better care for the lives of informal workers.
“The trade union at the grassroots level must proactively coordinate with the local government and socio-political organizations to create a favorable environment for propaganda and mobilizing informal workers to join the union,” Ms. Thuy shared.
