On the evening of February 6th, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized a meeting of overseas Vietnamese to celebrate Binh Ngo Spring 2026, with the participation of a large number of overseas Vietnamese from many countries and territories.
Speaking at the program, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that 2025 is a historical milestone, when the merger of Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces is completed, forming an unprecedented new development space.
Ho Chi Minh City has a scale of more than 6,700 km2, a population of over 14 million people, and converges three of the leading dynamic economic centers in the country. This opens up great development potential, but at the same time poses urgent requirements for thinking, approaches and new management models" - Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc said.
According to the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in 2025, the city's socio-economy continued to maintain positive growth momentum. The city's GRDP increased by 8.03%, and average income per capita reached nearly 8,800 USD. In particular, total budget revenue in the area for the first time exceeded the 800,000 billion VND mark.
A prominent highlight recognized by city leaders is the important contribution of the Vietnamese community abroad. In 2025 alone, remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached more than 10.34 billion USD, an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous year.
This is not only an important additional source of capital for the economy, contributing to stabilizing the balance of payments, but also clearly reflects the confidence of overseas Vietnamese in the investment environment, economic stability and development orientation of the city" - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed.

However, in the context of Ho Chi Minh City setting a target to be in the group of 100 most livable and developed cities in the world by 2045, the city determines not to stop at attracting remittance flows.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Ho Chi Minh City is shifting its approach to overseas Vietnamese resources in a "more practical and sustainable" direction, with a focus on attracting knowledge, management experience, international relations networks and the spirit of innovation.
The city is currently implementing the Project "Policy to promote the effectiveness of remittance resources in Ho Chi Minh City until 2030", with the goal of more comprehensively exploiting the role of the Vietnamese community abroad in socio-economic development.
To realize the strategic goals for the period 2025 - 2030, Ho Chi Minh City leaders said they will build a substantial database of overseas Vietnamese experts and intellectuals, creating conditions to participate in policy consulting and criticism, especially in the fields of high technology, digital transformation and knowledge economy.
Ho Chi Minh City also promotes the role of overseas Vietnamese in investment promotion, trade, market connection and promotion of Ho Chi Minh City's image internationally.
Ho Chi Minh City leaders are committed to continuing to improve institutions, listen to and protect the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese investors.
Ho Chi Minh City always clearly defines its responsibility in building trust, creating a long-term companion mechanism, so that overseas Vietnamese are assured to invest, produce, do business and be more attached to their homeland" - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized.
