On the evening of September 9, at the private home of the late historical researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau (Ben Thanh Ward), Ms. Truong Thi Bich Hanh - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - came to burn incense in memory of his death.
Many relatives, family, friends, colleagues, students and intellectuals also came, remembering the outstanding scholar who devoted his whole life to the research of history, geography and ethnic culture.
Ms. Truong Thi Bich Hanh expressed her deep appreciation and gratitude for the great contributions that the late researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau has made to the country. At the same time, he sent his best wishes to his family, hoping that his family would continue to promote his tradition, follow his example of dedication and service to the Fatherland.
Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau (1920 - 2024) was born in Hanoi and has been attached to the treasure trove of maps, ancient geography and rare documents about the history and geography of Vietnam all his life.
Since the 1950s, he has been tirelessly collecting and researching tens of thousands of maps, geographies, and ancient documents, becoming the founder of the geographical research industry in Vietnam.
In his scientific career, he left many valuable works such as a collection of more than 3,000 ancient maps of Vietnam and the world about Hoang Sa - Truong Sa, contributing to affirming the historical and legal basis of Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty; the Nguyen Dynasty's geographical records collection - a huge archive reflecting the social life, economy, land management of the regions; along with a series of research on the history of the South, Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh culture.
In 2019, his book "Vietnam's sovereignty over the East Sea and Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" was awarded the "Great Unity of the entire nation of Ho Chi Minh City" Award by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City.
