On the afternoon of January 29th in Nghe An, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction organized an international conference to build a Vietnam - Laos border of peace, friendship, cooperation and joint development in 2026.
Attending the conference were Comrade Khamphoi Vansane - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Lao Front for National Construction Central Committee. On the Vietnamese side were comrades: Hoang Cong Thuy - Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province; Nguyen Dinh Hung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province.
Vietnam and Laos share a border of more than 2,337 km, passing through 9 border provinces and cities of Vietnam. To date, the two countries have completed border marker planting at 1,002 points, built 905 border markers and completed the mapping of the Vietnam - Laos border.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy emphasized that the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos has been painstakingly cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries; building a peaceful and stable border is not only meaningful for security and defense but also a foundation for promoting economic development and improving the lives of people in border areas. Representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also said that this is a regular and long-term task of the entire political system, in which the role of the Front is very important.
After more than 3 years of implementing the joint communique for the period 2022 - 2025, the content of cooperation between the parties is assessed as increasingly substantive and broad. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front coordinates with ministries, branches, member organizations and localities to promote the implementation of the contents according to the communique; coordinates with the Border Guard force in managing border residents, ensuring security, national defense, environmental protection and supporting poverty reduction for ethnic minorities in border areas.
Propaganda and mobilization work for people to implement guidelines and policies related to people-to-people diplomacy, ensuring political security and social order and safety on the border line has also been implemented in many forms.
At the conference, the two sides signed an emulation agreement, agreeing on action between the Fronts of provinces sharing the border of the two countries in the period 2026 - 2028, showing the determination to continue to consolidate the friendly and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
