On the morning of June 5, Hanoi City People's Committee organized a program to respond to World Environment Day and the Action Month for the Environment in 2026 with the theme "Hanoi joins hands to act for clean air and green traffic".
Speaking at the program, Mr. Bui Duy Cuong - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that the Capital is entering a new stage of development with higher requirements for growth quality, environmental quality and urban living quality.
According to Mr. Cuong, the goal of building a green, civilized, civilized, and modern Capital is associated with ensuring a healthy, safe and livable living environment. In which, clean air is a practical right of the people; green transportation is an inevitable trend, while green transformation is the path for Hanoi to develop sustainably in the future.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee requested 126 communes and wards in the area to simultaneously launch environmental sanitation campaigns, improve landscapes, handle waste residue points, clear sewers, and take care of green trees; and at the same time propagate to people not to burn garbage, not to burn straw, limit the use of personal vehicles and prioritize environmentally friendly forms of transportation.
Within the framework of the program, the Hanoi People's Committee launched the Environmental Monitoring System based on community data. This is a digital platform that allows people to reflect, monitor and provide information about environmental issues in the city.
Through the system, people's field feedback is received, positioned on digital maps, updated in real time, helping functional agencies monitor, process and respond transparently and effectively.
According to Mr. Le Thanh Nam - Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, each reflection of people is a valuable data source. When connected by digital technology, these data will contribute to improving the capacity to monitor, warn and handle environmental issues, towards a more modern, transparent and effective environmental governance.
Also within the framework of the event, the "Green Traffic Transformation Day" Conference was organized with the participation of management agencies, experts, international organizations, transport businesses and transport service providers.
Delegates focused on exchanging views on the roadmap for deploying low-emission zones (LEZs) in Hanoi, international experience in controlling urban air pollution, solutions for developing green transportation and support mechanisms for people and businesses in the transition process.
Representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam highly appreciated Hanoi's efforts in combining digital transformation, promoting community participation and promoting sustainable transportation solutions to improve the quality of the urban environment.
Through a series of activities in response to World Environment Day 2026, Hanoi continues to affirm its determination to shift from awareness to action, from commitment to specific results in environmental protection. The launch of the Community-Based Environmental Monitoring System and solutions to promote green traffic and deploy low-emission zones are considered important steps towards the goal of building a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Capital.
