On August 3, Tuyen Quang Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong province) coordinated with Ham Thuan Nam Forest Protection Department and functional units to release the python to sub-area 300 of Ta Bau Nature Reserve after completing procedures according to regulations.
Previously, an individual python followed the riverbank and crawled towards the chicken coop of Mr. Tran Van Thao's family (born 1975) in Tien Thanh village, Tuyen Quang commune.
Mr. Thao used a rope to arrest it but tried not to injure the python. Instead of keeping the python himself, Mr. Thao brought the python weighing about 13kg to hand over to the local authorities.
Functional forces identified this as a python (scientific name Python molurus), belonging to group IIB - a group of endangered, rare and precious forest animals listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
After receiving it, local authorities and forest rangers checked the health status of the python individual, and at the same time announced to verify the owner. When the time for verification and completion of the dossier expired, the python individual was brought back to the forest.
According to Tuyen Quang Commune People's Committee, people proactively handing over wild animals instead of keeping them in captivity or illegally trading them contributes to supporting the work of protecting forest animals and biodiversity.
