On October 3, the Department of Hydrometeorology (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said it was consulting with relevant organizations to officially propose the removal of the name of storm Bualoi at the meeting of the International Storm Committee in February 2026 due to the heavy damage caused by this storm in Vietnam.
The name Bualoi (a type of tea) was proposed by Thailand and included in the list of international typhoon names to replace the name Rammasun, after this name was removed for causing great damage. Historically, the name Bualoi has been used twice, the first in 2019.
Typhoon Bualoi is the 10th storm in the East Sea in 2025. From September 27, the storm moved along the coast from Da Nang, causing heavy rain and thunderstorms in Hue. The storm made landfall in the Nghe An - Ha Tinh area on the night of September 28 and early morning of September 29.
This is a fast-moving storm, strong storm intensity, and wide range of influence. Causing heavy rain and widespread flooding in many provinces and cities such as Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Hanoi.

As of 5:00 p.m. on October 3, storm Bualoi has killed 53 people, left 14 people missing and injured 165 people; 363 houses collapsed, more than 174,211 houses were damaged; 1,515 schools were affected, 9,558 electric poles were broken and collapsed. Regarding livestock farming, 2,632 cattle and 566,346 poultry died and were swept away.
The total preliminary economic damage in some provinces is VND16,510 billion (Lao Cai VND2,750 billion, Son La VND528 billion, Phu Tho VND150 billion, Tuyen Quang VND3,000 billion, Cao Bang VND750 billion, Thai Nguyen VND108 billion, Hai Phong VND16 billion, Ninh Binh VND500 billion; Nghe An VND2,136 billion, Ha Tinh VND6,000 billion, Quang Tri VND550 billion, Da Nang VND22 billion).
Localities are continuing to review, summarize the damage and organize to overcome the consequences.
Previously, in February 2025, the name Yagi (named by Japan) was also removed from the Naming Council of the Storm Committee for causing severe damage to the northern provinces of Vietnam in 2024 and some other countries.
