Persistent with the goal of developing green urban areas
Starting since 2008, with the Da Nang Construction Project - Environmental City according to Decision 41/2008/QD-UBND, Da Nang has oriented to build a green - clean - sustainable developing urban area. After 17 years, the sustainable urban model is no longer a paper orientation, but has become a widespread movement in the community.

Da Nang has been honored with many environmental awards such as "ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City" 2011; "Smart, Green, Clean Environmental Management City" in 2021, 2023 and 2024; and continuously leading the PEPI index - the environmental protection results assessment index released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
In 2025, the City People's Committee will continue to issue Plan 171/KH-UBND 2025, continuing the period 2021-2030. This plan integrates the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and the national environmental protection strategy, with a suitable roadmap after expanding administrative space.
In the energy sector, Da Nang identifies two sources with great potential: solar energy and biomass.

The city is calling for investment in renewable projects: from a waste treatment plant at Khanh Son landfill, with a capacity of 2x18 MW; to a 15 MW thermal power plant in Lien Chieu Industrial Park; along with a plan to develop 250 MW of solar power at closed mineral mines and rooftop solar power systems in residential areas and offices.
The renewable energy development plan is specified in the adjustment of the plan to supplement clean energy sources for the period 2025-2030, according to the Government's decision. Accordingly, Da Nang plans to increase the output of small hydropower plants, solar (roof and ground), waste-to-energy, biomass, to meet electricity demand and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The proportion of renewable energy in the city's total primary energy supply is expected to reach about 9.7% by 2035.
Green tourism - A pillar of long-term development
Not only stopping at energy, Da Nang is aiming to develop a "green, sustainable and environmentally friendly" tourism industry.
Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang said that the city is implementing many training programs, communication, and in-depth training on green tourism governance; applying ESG (environment - society - governance); waste management; saving energy; as well as equipping digital skills for tourism businesses.

With this orientation, green tourism is identified as one of the three pillars of long-term development until 2045. This is a strategy to turn Da Nang into "Asia's leading ecological, smart and livable city".
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang emphasized: converting the growth model from a linear economy to a circular economy is not only an inevitable trend but a " strategic breakthrough", to ensure sustainable and harmonious development between the economy and the environment. Da Nang does not operate alone but at the same time responds to national commitments.

Despite many impressive steps forward, the path to Net Zero 2050 (net emissions at 0) is not simple. Requires synchronization between the government, businesses and the community - from incentive policies, infrastructure investment to changing awareness and behavior.
However, with a clear roadmap, strong commitments and the participation of many sectors, from energy, tourism to urban management, Da Nang is gradually realizing its dream of becoming a green, smart, and livable city; a place where the environment and development go together and are sustainable.
