To date, Da Nang City has 1,536 fishing vessels. Of these, 1,168 are registered. Currently, 992 of the city's registered fishing vessels have their information updated in the National Fisheries Database.
In order to strictly control the activities of fishing vessels, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Da Nang City and the People's Committees of the districts have reviewed, compiled a list of fishing vessels and organized actual inspections of their current operations. At the same time, they have worked directly with each vessel owner to support and guide the procedures for issuing documents for fishing vessels according to regulations.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Phan Van My, to effectively carry out legal seafood exploitation, it is necessary to grasp the number of fishing vessels at sea, thereby monitoring the activities of these fishing vessels.
At the same time, seriously and effectively implement the work of information, propaganda, and guidance on legal regulations for fishermen and related organizations and individuals on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and sustainable development of the fisheries sector in the city.
Mr. Phan Van My said that in the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the city will organize an interdisciplinary inspection team to inspect and supervise agencies, functional forces, and localities in the city on the implementation of tasks to combat IUU fishing.
Along with that, strengthen the work of grasping the situation, promptly detecting early, from afar, and preventing right from the shore fishing vessels and fishermen who intentionally violate IUU fishing.
Investigate and strictly handle according to the law violations of IUU fishing, especially acts of brokering and organizing fishing vessels and fishermen from Da Nang to illegally exploit aquatic resources in foreign waters. Organizations and individuals who collude, condone, and assist in IUU fishing.
In addition, focus on completing the issuance of documents (registration, inspection, fishing licenses) for 100% of fishing vessels that are still in operation and have complete records, and fully updating fishing vessel data on the national fisheries database.
