On the morning of November 10, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said that the technical unit had conducted a geological exploration drill at the Cay An reservoir dam.
After drilling and exploring, the specialized units will conduct an assessment and consider the plan and quantity of waterproof chemicals pumping into the dam body to reinforce the protection of irrigation lakes from the risk of breaking.

According to the plan, today, the construction unit will drill and pump waterproof chemicals to reinforce the dam body.
Before conducting the exploration drilling, this morning, November 9, relevant units, contractors and experts from the Department of Irrigation Works Management and Construction under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a meeting to assess the plan to overcome the cracking and subsidence incident of this irrigation lake.
Accordingly, the construction unit will drill 48 drill points, pump waterproof chemicals to reinforce the dam body, and completely overcome the situation of the dam body absorbing water. This work is expected to take about 15 days.
In addition, the authorities will conduct a survey and handle the entire dam body, which is expected to take about 30 days.
Along with the chemical pumping drilling work, for many days now, 4 pumps have been operating at full capacity to limit the water level in the lake to reduce pressure on the dam body.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, in the long term, the project will be reinforced with stone cages at the dams and handed over to a professional management and operation unit in the field of irrigation for regular maintenance and repair.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on the afternoon of November 7, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain from storm No. 13 Kalmaegi, the water level flowing into Cay An Lake increased rapidly. This caused the foot of the dam near the spillway to have a crack about 54m long, 2m deep, and a mouth 0.2 - 0.5m wide.
The cracks are at risk of continuing to spread if the bad weather continues, posing a potential risk of dam failure. Immediately after discovering the incident, the authorities mobilized more than 200 people and machinery throughout the night to fix the incident.
After many efforts, by the afternoon of November 8, the water seep phenomenon had been basically handled, the main cracks had been temporarily repaired, ensuring initial safety for the dam body.
Cay An Lake was put into use in 2007, with a capacity of about 1.7 million m3, providing irrigation water for 250 hectares of agricultural land in Ta Nang commune and some surrounding areas.
