On the afternoon of January 8, Quang Tan Commune Police (Lam Dong) said that they had just coordinated with functional units to receive 2 long-tailed monkeys (scientific name Macaca fascicularis) voluntarily handed over by people in the area.
The household that handed over 2 monkeys is the family of Ms. Pham Thi Phuong, residing in Dieng Du village (Quang Tan commune).
Previously, 2 long-tailed monkeys (1 male, 1 female) appeared in Dieng Du village and often tried to enter people's houses to find food, catch chickens, and damage furniture and property of many households.
Fearing the risk of unsafety, especially the possibility of monkeys attacking people, Ms. Phuong's family and some households have proactively arrested and handed over the monkeys to functional agencies.
Immediately after receiving them, Quang Tan Commune Police coordinated with the local Forest Protection Department and the Commune Economic Department to inspect and assess the health status of the 2 monkeys; and at the same time complete procedures and release these individuals back to the natural environment according to regulations.
