On the morning of September 21, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi directly inspected the scene and directed the handling of landslides on the Prenn pass.
Also participating was Standing Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai.
Previously, at about 4:30 pm on September 19, at Km225+200 National Highway 20, the section through Prenn Pass, a positive taluy landslide occurred due to heavy rain, dragging at least 3 rocks and many soil and rocks onto the road.
Some drivers promptly slowed down, stopped their vehicles or steered to avoid rocks and soil. The incident did not cause casualties, and no vehicle damage was recorded.
After that, the Department of Construction coordinated with relevant units to divert traffic, regulate traffic and handle the scene.
At the scene, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi assessed that this is an area that often experiences landslides when prolonged rain, posing a potential danger to people and vehicles traveling.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Construction, Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 1 to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to urgently announce the emergency situation of natural disaster for this landslide point.
Units must mobilize forces and vehicles to focus on handling; arrange a 24/24 hour on-duty team to promptly respond to arising situations.
At the same time, fully arrange warning signs at both ends of the route, guiding people, tourists and vehicles to circulate safely through the area.
According to the Department of Construction, the positive taluy slope section from Km224+900 - Km225+250 often experiences landslides of soil and rock when it rains. From June 2026 to now, this area has experienced 8 landslides, posing a high risk for people and vehicles.
Through surveys, the dug taluy slope is about 20-25m high and about 120m long. The geology consists of land mixed with orphaned rocks, which has become overall unstable and landslides have appeared when it rains.
As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, on September 12 and 19, heavy rain caused landslides to occur continuously in the area Km224+900 - Km225+250 National Highway 20, with a lot of soil and rocks spilling onto the road, causing traffic obstruction. Fortunately, the incidents did not cause casualties.
After the incidents, functional agencies organized traffic regulation, mobilized forces and vehicles to handle soil and rocks, ensuring safety for people and vehicles crossing Prenn Pass.
