Lam Dong - The Provincial People's Committee announced an emergency situation for natural disasters in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune due to rapid subsidence and land cracks, threatening people's safety.

On September 20, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province issued a decision announcing an emergency situation of natural disaster in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune.

According to the decision, this area is experiencing landslides and subsidence with an average depth of about 20cm. Many cracks appear along the hillside and residential areas, extending about 300m, 6-17cm wide and tending to continue to expand.

The affected area has subsidence and a high risk of landslides covering more than 4ha. From September 1-18, this situation directly affected 79 households with 454 people.

The Provincial People's Committee assesses that the ground level in the area is seriously unstable. If heavy rain continues, the risk of landslides and rock collapses on a large scale may threaten the lives, health and housing of people.

The Provincial People's Committee requests forces to closely monitor weather developments, landslide areas and surrounding areas to proactively respond.

Quang Son Commune People's Committee was assigned to plant warning signs, stretch ropes, and arrange guards to prevent people from entering dangerous areas.

Localities must review, mobilize and organize the relocation of people from landslide-prone areas; arrange temporary housing areas and ensure necessities for affected households.

The locality is also reviewing the land fund to propose building a resettlement area if it cannot handle the current landslide area.

The resettlement location must ensure geological stability, no risk of landslides and convenience for people to live.

Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 3 is assigned to coordinate with Quang Son Commune People's Committee to conduct in-depth surveys and assessments of geology, causes and level of landslides to propose long-term treatment plans.

Functional agencies are also required to inventory houses, land, crops, and livestock affected to prepare plans to support people.

As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the situation of subsidence and land cracks in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune, affecting 79 households with 454 people; the locality has organized the relocation of people to safe places.

The affected area is about 4ha wide, with an average subsidence depth of 20cm. The cracks extend about 300m along the hillside and residential areas, 6-17cm wide and tend to continue to expand.

No casualties have been recorded, but subsidence affects houses and production land.

The locality arranged an evacuation area of 3,000m2, building 9 temporary houses. On the night of September 17, 215 people including the elderly, women and children were relocated.

Chairman of the People's Council of Lam Dong province Luu Van Trung also came to inspect the reality and requested to ensure safety, take care of people's lives and study resettlement plans for people in the cracked and subsided area in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune.
