On the evening of October 28, according to a quick report from the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, the flood situation in the Central region is developing very complicatedly. Rain from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong provinces in the past 24 hours has generally ranged from 100-200mm. In particular, in Hue and Quang Ngai, there were places with over 300mm of rain, of which the measuring station at Dinh Bach Ma (Hue) recorded a record rainfall of up to 692mm.
As of 5:30 p.m. this afternoon, 4 people have died (Da Nang 3, Lam Dong 1), 4 people are missing (Hue 1, Da Nang 3) and 8 people are injured. The flood also caused 10 houses to collapse completely, 54 houses were severely damaged, and more than 100,852 houses were submerged, of which Da Nang was the most severely affected locality with 65,097 houses, Hue had 35,000 houses flooded. Thousands of hectares of rice, crops and fruit trees were submerged, nearly 5,000 livestock and poultry were swept away.
In Hue, the flood peak on the Bo River at 2:00 p.m. on October 27 reached 5.25 m, officially 0.01 m higher than the historical flood peak. Other rivers such as Huong River, Vu Gia River, Thu Bon River are all fluctuating at a high level above alert level 3.
According to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, at least 35 locations on key national highways and the Ho Chi Minh Road have been blocked due to deep flooding and landslides. The railway industry has also had to block the Van Xa - Hue section, suspending a series of North - South passenger trains on October 27 and 28.
Previously, on the morning of October 28, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directly visited Hue to inspect and direct rescue work and overcome the consequences. Localities evacuated 4,704 households/13,008 people from dangerous areas at risk of landslides and deep flooding to safe places.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from now until October 30, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, especially Hue and Da Nang, will continue to have heavy to very heavy rain, some places over 550mm. The risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas is very high. Localities and people need to continue to be vigilant and closely monitor the developments of floods to proactively prevent and minimize damage.
