The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control said that, according to quick reports from localities including Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Son La and Hanoi, the natural disaster and hail that occurred in the past 2 days has caused heavy damage to people, housing, agricultural production and people's infrastructure.

Regarding people, natural disasters caused 4 deaths. Among them, Tuyen Quang had 1 death due to lightning strikes, Quang Ninh had 2 deaths due to thunderstorms overturning boats, Son La had 1 death due to lightning strikes. There were 9 injured people, including Lao Cai 6 people, Lang Son 1 person, Thai Nguyen 1 person and Hanoi 1 person.
Regarding housing, 13 houses collapsed, of which Lao Cai suffered the heaviest damage with 12 houses, Son La 1 house. In addition, 6,551 houses had their roofs blown off or damaged. Lao Cai is the locality that suffered the most damage with 4,528 houses affected, followed by Thai Nguyen 684 houses, Cao Bang 634 houses, Lang Son 358 houses, Tuyen Quang 314 houses, Son La 30 houses and Phu Tho 3 houses.
Natural disasters also caused significant damage to agricultural production. 35 hectares of rice in Lao Cai were affected. 181.8 hectares of crops, fruit trees and annual crops were damaged, concentrated in localities such as Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Hanoi and Son La. Along with that, 68.1 hectares of forestry trees were broken and damaged, mainly in Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai.
In the livestock sector, 1,280 poultry died, of which Thai Nguyen lost 1,000, Lao Cai 280.
Many civil and public works were also affected. 172 auxiliary works had their roofs blown off and damaged; 34 school sites, 22 cultural houses and 3 agency headquarters were damaged. 21 power poles were broken and 2 transformer stations in Hanoi were damaged.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities organized visits and encouraged families of victims; and at the same time mobilized forces to support people to overcome the consequences and soon stabilize their lives. Localities are also continuing to review, statistically analyze, and summarize damage.
