The North-South Expressway expansion project in the East, Cao Bo - Mai Son section, is invested by the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Construction. The project started in March 2025, and so far the contractors have completed excavation, paving and paving the roadbed, basically closing piles for the entire 9,800m. Of which, 640m has been paved with BR25 asphalt concrete and 120m paved with C19 asphalt concrete.
For 5 bridges on the entire route, to date, the construction unit has basically completed the installation of beams, concreted the bridge surface, bridge railings and C19 asphalt concrete paving the bridge surface. The estimated implementation value is about 525/1,029 billion VND (reaching 51.0%).
Present at the construction site for the expansion of the Cao Bo - Mai Son Expressway Project on January 10, according to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters' records, despite the cold weather, hundreds of workers and machinery are working urgently to speed up the project progress.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Do Huy Tuan - Deputy Director of the Construction Investment Project Management Board (under Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Construction) - said that contractors are currently mobilizing more than 300 workers and nearly 100 equipment and machinery to deploy 11 construction bridges on the entire route. It is expected that the project will be completed and put into operation in 2026.
Currently, construction teams are working overtime until 9 pm daily to speed up progress and shorten the project completion time. We are striving to complete the main route in June 2026" - Mr. Tuan said.
The Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project is invested in expanding 2 more lanes on the left side of the existing road, with a scale of 6 lanes, roadbed width of 32.25m; road surface width for vehicles is 22.5m; in addition, there is a median strip, emergency stopping strip and sidewalk. Design speed from 100 to 120km/h, according to expressway standard TCVN 5729-2012. The total investment of the Project is nearly 1,900 billion VND from the central budget. Up to now, the total capital allocated to the project is 1,200 billion VND.
After completion and commissioning, this road will contribute to improving exploitation capacity, meeting increasing transportation needs, reducing traffic accidents, and supporting the socio-economic development of Ninh Binh province.
At the same time, gradually complete the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Contributing to the implementation of the goals of Resolution 30-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Red River Delta region.
