On the morning of November 4, when hearing that Mr. N.T's family (73 years old, residing in Tan Liem village, Trieu Binh commune) held a funeral ceremony at Thanh Liem village cemetery, the village chief Nguyen Van Muoi inspected the flooding situation along the concrete road. The route is less than 1km long, but some sections are flooded 1m deep, making it difficult to move and unsafe.
" fearing that the funeral process was dangerous, I immediately reported it to the Commune Civil Defense Command to ask for support," said Mr. Muoi.
Upon receiving the information, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu - Chairman of the People's Committee of Trieu Binh Commune - urgently mobilized 20 police officers, soldiers and militia to support the funeral.
Although the authorities have put up warning signs and banned people from passing through deeply flooded areas, due to special circumstances, the authorities still decided to support people to hold funerals in the safest conditions.
At exactly 7am, the funeral took place, the police and militia forces wore life jackets, carried heavy objects, assisted the elderly, and supported the funeral group to overcome the flooded road. After just over an hour, the funeral was completed, and all people returned safely.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu said that during the rainy and flood days, the commune government always arranges forces to be on duty 24/7 to promptly respond.
"In addition to placing warning signs, we are ready to support people in all situations, including private matters such as funerals, as long as we ensure the safety of people's lives" - Mr. Vu said.
Trieu Binh commune is located in the lower reaches of Thach Han river, with low terrain, so it is often flooded during heavy rains. Currently, many main roads are still cut off and traffic is paralyzed, but in that difficulty, local authorities stand side by side with people to ensure the safety of activities.
