On weekends, instead of sleeping in, 20 children in the Junior Volunteer Team in Tam Thanh commune wake up earlier than usual to carry out a special task - picking up trash and cleaning Tam Thanh beach.
At 6:00 a.m. on September 28, after gathering at the village entrance, the group was given protective gear such as plastic gloves, garbage bags, etc. by Mr. Le Dung - Head of Hoa Trung village, Tam Thanh commune, and instructions on how to classify garbage, especially hazardous garbage. After about 15 minutes of "instruction", the group started to pick up garbage along the beach.
Garbage such as plastic bags, tree trunks, bottles... lying on the roads leading to the sea or on the beach were collected by the children. Then, under the guidance of Mr. Dung, the garbage was gathered and classified for recycling to ensure environmental hygiene.
“I really like participating in this activity because there are many children and friends working together. After picking up trash, I see the beach is cleaner and more beautiful, which makes me very happy” - Nguyen Tuong Nghi, 13 years old, a member of the young volunteer team shared.
Village Chief Le Dung said that the Hoa Trung Village Green Volunteer Team was established in early 2023, with the consent of the parents.
Ms. Tran Thi My Tam, Tuong Nghi's parent, said that her child really likes to participate in beach cleaning activities. Being proactive in cleaning the beach also helps her gradually develop a sense of personal hygiene and helping her family with housework, so her family is very supportive.
According to Mr. Truong Thanh Khoi - Chairman of Tam Thanh Commune People's Committee, the locality has a beach about 7km long, with a nearly pristine white sand bank. In recent years, the beach has attracted a lot of people and tourists, especially in mid-June, when the "Tam Thanh Beach Tourism" festival takes place, so the amount of waste is relatively large.
“In addition to the efforts of the government, people, businesses and tourists, after more than a year and a half of working together, the Green Volunteer Team has brought positive changes to Tam Thanh Bich Hoa village beach, spreading the message of joining hands to protect the environment to the community,” said Mr. Khoi.
Recently, the People's Committee of Tam Ky city has commended and rewarded the Green Volunteer Team of Hoa Trung village for its environmental protection activities. In the coming time, this model will be replicated throughout Tam Thanh commune.
