On the morning of November 11, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, together with the Department of Culture - Social Affairs, Phu Quoc Special Zone (An Giang), organized a ceremony to commend and reward Mr. Tran Hoang Phuong, a resident of Quarter 7 Duong Dong for his beautiful actions in helping Korean tourists find their lost mother during a trip to the island.
According to Mr. Phuong, on November 2, during a trip to Phu Quoc, a Korean woman suddenly got lost when leaving the supermarket area. At that time, a Korean man in the group and a Vietnamese person went to a fruit orchard on Tran Hung Dao Street to check the camera.
The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Tran Hoang Phuong, immediately supported. He reopened the photo and saw an old woman passing by the door at around 6pm, the Korean man immediately recognized that it was his mother. They are tourists, have no means of transportation, and are not used to roads, so they are even more confused. Seeing that, Mr. Phuong decided to take a motorbike to take the old lady's son to look for him.
Following information from the people, Mr. Phuong and the Korean woman's son also found the woman walking along the road about 4-5km away. Mr. Phuong took his grandmother back to the fruit basket to wait for her family to pick her up. When meeting relatives again, the whole family was moved, both happy and relieved after a period of panic over being apart. The male Korean tourist suggested sending 500 USD in compensation but Mr. Phuong refused.
At the commendation and reward ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, praised and acknowledged the sense of responsibility and hospitality of Mr. Tran Hoang Phuong. Mr. Phuong's actions, although simple, demonstrated a high sense of humanity and community awareness. Hopefully, the people of the Pearl Island will continue to spread the good image of Phu Quoc to domestic and international friends.
The small but meaningful action of Mr. Tran Hoang Phuong once again spreads the spirit of "Phu Quoc people, friendly, affectionate, and hospitable", contributing to building a safe, friendly and humane image of Phu Quoc tourism in the hearts of domestic and foreign tourists.
The story of Mr. Phuong's kindness was published by the Korean news agency Yonhap on November 6. Many other major Korean newspapers and TV stations also shared the above incident. Korean audiences expressed their emotions and thanked Mr. Phuong for his kindness.
