When people moved away, the relics were renovated to help the landscape and roads become more open and cleaner. We, the people, were very excited."

Having lived for decades in the Tay Thanh Thuy Quan area (the waterway gate to the Citadel), Ms. Nguyen Thi Giap (91 years old) said that she and her relatives used to live a hard and difficult life in the relic area. Fortunately, thanks to the resettlement project, she has a new life beyond her expectations. “My family has three grandchildren. Here (the resettlement area) is more comfortable, because in the other side (the relic area) I lived in a pond, it was dark and flooded, it was very difficult. Coming here, there is a market nearby, the roads are clean and beautiful, the houses are solid, it is convenient and safe to live in,” Ms. Giap said.

The leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center shared that, from the perspective of preserving relics and heritage, with the role of the core and foundation for building the city of Hue under the Central Government, this migration has many important meanings, helping the Hue Citadel Heritage - a very important heritage in the complex of Hue monuments to be restored to its original appearance after many years of serious encroachment and damage; helping the appearance of the entire relic system in the Hue Citadel gradually regain its unique and symbolic values, contributing to improving the quality of the urban heritage landscape and also helping people to appreciate and be more aware of preserving and protecting the unique cultural values of Hue. From here, it will spread to make the people currently living in the heritage area more aware and ready to accompany the authorities and localities in preserving and returning space to the heritage.
