The book "Nguyen Quang Bich - Patriotic intellectual, leader of the resistance movement at the end of the 19th century" was just launched by the National Political Publishing House of Truth in Hanoi, on April 23.
This is a scientific work of practical significance in researching and honoring the life, career, ideology, merits and poetic and literary heritage of a typical figure in the Vietnamese patriotic movement at the end of the 19th century.
The book is compiled based on many reliable historical, literary and local research sources and the results of national-level scientific conferences, systematically recreating the life, career and thought of Nguyen Quang Bich.
Through this, researchers clarify the historical, political, and social context of Vietnam at the end of the 19th century and the special role of Nguyen Quang Bich in the Can Vuong movement in the Northwest region - where the anti-French resistance movement took place fiercely, closely associated with ethnic minorities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Thinh - Deputy Director, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth - emphasized that the history of the Vietnamese nation is the history of the tradition of fighting against foreign invaders, of patriotism, of people who know how to put national destiny above personal interests.
In that flow, Nguyen Quang Bich appears as a typical image of the Confucian intellectuals of the late 19th century - people who carry in themselves a profound transformation from trung quân ideology to national consciousness, from the path of becoming mandarins to the path of dedicating themselves to the independence of the country, with the desire to change, knowing how to bring knowledge to serve the country, bringing benevolence as the foundation for action.
Nguyen Quang Bich was not only an honest and upright official, but also a resilient leader of the resistance movement against France in the Northwest mountainous region - where geographical conditions are dangerous, forces are dispersed, but it is a particularly important strategic area...
