Yesterday (October 3), Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Nguyen Quang Tuan officially informed about the case of a 10th grade male student and a young female teacher at Thach Ban High School (Long Bien District, Hanoi) having intimate actions right in the classroom, witnessed by many students and recorded in a clip, causing a stir in public opinion in recent days.
Mr. Tuan said that after verifying, the school temporarily suspended teaching so that the teacher could review and learn from her experience. For students, the school also worked with their families to help them see the problem and review their behavior according to regulations.
In this case, the handling by the leaders of Thach Ban High School and the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi City is reasonable and appropriate.
It is reprehensible and difficult to justify that a teacher allowed her students to be intimate in the classroom, in front of many students.
This situation shows that both teachers and students show signs of a lack of awareness of roles and responsibilities, causing chaos in the hierarchy of the classroom. It is a confusion between the roles of teachers and students, between respect and intimacy, between morality and personal feelings.
In the educational space, where mutual respect, teachers as teachers and students as students, is the foundation, any behavior that blurs that line deserves criticism.
Notably, other students in the class not only witnessed but also participated in filming the clip, posting it on social networks, causing misunderstandings and creating a wave of negative comments.
However, to be fair, it was an "accident", stemming from the lack of experience in handling pedagogical situations of a teacher born in 2001. As Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan said, "the teacher was young, had little experience in managing the classroom and handling situations that occurred, was not strict, and did not promptly remind students", so from a certain perspective, it is understandable.
The intimate behavior between a teacher and a student at Thach Ban High School was a regrettable mistake, but it is also an important lesson for parents in general, for young teachers, and for the education sector. Especially for the pedagogical training of future teachers in higher education institutions.
To educate in the true sense of education and to have the desired effectiveness, many factors are needed. Among them, ensuring and preserving the pedagogical environment and school culture requires the cooperation of many parties. And most importantly, each person in the system, from teachers to students and parents, needs to be aware and behave in accordance with their position!
