Can Tho resettlement land compensation price 3-4 times higher is not satisfactory

Lê Thanh Phong |

People's land was confiscated to serve the highway project, but the price of resettlement land was 3-4 times higher than the compensation price.

Can Tho City People's Committee approved the lowest land use fee price of 14.5 million VND/m2 and the highest price of 21.6 million VND/m2. Resettled people do not have money to pay, if they try to empty their pockets to pay for resettlement land, they will have no money left for their livelihood.

These households received compensation for land at the lowest price of 4.5 million VND/m2 and the highest price of nearly 8 million VND/m2 (urban land). According to the people's calculations, with the above land price, they have to pay an average of 3-4 times the compensation for resettlement land.

This is very unreasonable, the people are charged resettlement land prices many times higher than the land compensation price. The local government knows clearly that the majority of people here are poor, very poor workers, so where do people get the money to pay?

Proposing a way to solve compensation and resettlement, knowing that people cannot afford to pay for resettlement land, why is it still done?

Another unreasonable thing is that before, the People's Committee of Cai Rang district allocated resettlement land to households and told them to build houses to live in. People came to receive land to build houses, not thinking that they would have to pay land prices several times higher than the compensation. Now, the People's Committee of Can Tho city has announced land prices that sound like "a thunderbolt".

In the article When Can Tho residents cry out because of the “sky-high” resettlement land prices published on September 22 in Lao Dong Newspaper, the general opinion of the households is that if they pay the money, they will be left empty-handed and have no capital to do business and make a living. But if they do not pay the money, they will not be granted a land use right certificate, and without legal documents, they will not be able to mortgage it for business loans.

The Petition Committee forwarded the petitions of 40 households in Cai Rang district to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City for consideration and direction to resolve them within their authority, in accordance with the provisions of law, respond to citizens and report the results of the resolution to the Petition Committee to perform the task of supervising the settlement of complaints and denunciations of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Can Tho city leaders need to consider and make an early decision on a resettlement land price suitable for the people's capacity, so that people can feel secure in doing business and living.
