The story of homeroom teacher H of class 4/3 at Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) asking parents for laptop support is causing a stir in public opinion with many confusing details.
The gist is that Ms. H asked the class's Parents' Association to support her with a laptop worth 4 to 5 million VND to prepare review materials for students, a document printer, and 300,000 VND per month to support the nanny.
However, after that, after many back and forth discussions on the Zalo group, because some parents did not agree, Ms. H repeatedly concluded that she refused to accept the laptop: "I would like to clarify my point of view that I do not accept it from parents. And I also do not have to prepare review outlines for the children. I agree on the review lesson and parents review by themselves. I thank you, parents. That's it, parents."
Compared to the case of teacher N.T.V., who was temporarily suspended from work by the Board of Directors of Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School in Ninh Binh City, Ninh Binh Province, from September 25 to clarify the incident in which a parent filed a petition about teacher V. using insulting words, behaving inappropriately, causing pressure, and seriously affecting the psychology of students during their studies in class, the case of teacher H. asking for laptop support is not as serious.
However, Ms. H's request for laptop support exposed another dark side, which was very sad and shameful. This caused the parents of 25/27 students in Ms. H's class to request to transfer their children to another class.
Speaking with Lao Dong on the afternoon of September 28, Mr. Vo Cao Long - Head of the Department of Education and Training of District 1 - said that the Department had worked with the school to temporarily suspend the arrangement of teacher H to teach while the case was being handled.
The school will arrange for another teacher to teach the class to stabilize the psychology of students and parents, and at the same time resolve the request to transfer classes of 25/27 parents of students in this class.
For now, the solution as provided by the Department of Education and Training of District 1 is satisfactory. Although the actions and words of teacher H have not yet offended or hurt the students and parents, they still need to be seriously handled and disciplined to set an example and serve as a lesson.
If teachers act like Ms. H, the "sacredness" of education in the eyes of students and parents will disappear.
During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once said: “The duty of a teacher is very glorious, because without teachers there is no education…”. The late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong also affirmed: “Teaching is the noblest of noble professions, the most creative of creative professions because it has created creative people”.
However, teachers and the teaching profession today sometimes have their glory and nobility affected when somewhere there are still teachers asking for laptop support like Ms. H in Ho Chi Minh City or teacher N.T.V insulting and causing harm to students in Ninh Binh!
