On the morning of January 25 in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the Transport sector, chaired a meeting with ministries, sectors and localities to speed up the construction progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project.
In addition to the construction items with good construction progress, there are also some slow implementations, such as in component project 1, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has not yet allocated capital and has not completed the procedures for approving the investment policy for the animal and plant quarantine agency headquarters.
For component project 4, some bidding packages have not yet selected investors, causing slow progress.
The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant agencies to review and handle officials responsible for the delay in implementing the Long Thanh airport project.
There have been many projects behind schedule, leading to cost overruns, but the leaders of the projects have not been publicly held accountable.
Do not wait until the project is behind schedule before dealing with the staff, but must resolve the issue as soon as it occurs, to rectify and overcome the limitations and weaknesses.
Therefore, the Prime Minister requested to "handle the officials responsible for the delay in implementing the Long Thanh airport project" and set a completion time. For example, for component project 4, the remaining procedures must be completed before February 15.
How to deal with officials, the Prime Minister is determined: "Whoever talks back, whoever cannot do it, stand aside so others can do it, do not let irresponsible people get in the way."
It is time to resolutely deal with those individuals who are responsible but cannot do the job, leaving that position to someone capable to take over. Officials assigned tasks cannot say that they are difficult - because difficult tasks require capable people to solve them.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that "if we want double-digit growth in the coming years, traffic must be smooth." Therefore, not only the Long Thanh airport project, but all traffic infrastructure projects must be implemented and built to meet quality and aesthetic criteria and be completed on time.
