Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector announced the quality ranking of 162 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, this is an important step forward in transparency of health information, creating a solid foundation for improving the quality of medical examination and treatment in the key economic region of the South.
As one of the public hospitals with 956.12 high-quality ratings, the City Children's Hospital has made continuous efforts for many years to achieve the 4th ranking out of 162 hospitals in the city.
According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the hospital, this is not a "fire fighting for inspection" but a systematic development process, based on science and progress in health management.
The hospital has focused on developing many specialties such as cardiology, neonatal resuscitation, intensive resuscitation, continuous blood filtration, early intervention of fetal abnormalities... At the same time, promoting the application of technology such as electronic medical records, ordering examination via app, remote consultation to help patients, especially children, receive care in a friendly environment, no longer as serious as "going to the doctor".
However, according to Dr. Tien, the journey to improve quality also faces many difficulties, especially in the synchronous implementation of 83 criteria of the Ministry of Health. The most difficult thing is to change perception and unify actions from top to bottom. We must persistently train, supervise, and build a clear process, from costumes, communication, to hospital safety".
With the high score in the announcement of the 162 hospital ranking in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Tien assessed: "This score is a good motivation for hospitals to look back on themselves, but the most important thing is still to serve patients safely and effectively".
The hospital is aiming to conquer the JCI international standard - the world's leading health quality assessment system. We understand that it will be very stressful, but if we can do it, this will be a turning point to affirm our position and integrate more deeply in the area, Dr. Tien shared.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has completed the assessment of the quality of 162 hospitals and medical centers in Ho Chi Minh City (including the old Binh Duong and the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau), according to the Hospital Quality Criteria set of the Ministry of Health. This is the first year that the Ho Chi Minh City health sector has applied a ranking with a scale of 1,000 to comprehensively reflect management capacity, professional quality and patient satisfaction.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the public announcement of the rankings not only transparents healthcare activities but also creates a "push" to motivate hospitals to continuously improve quality. The facilities with high scores not only meet professional requirements but also prove effective in comprehensive patient management and care, Dr. Chau emphasized.
Among public hospitals, Binh Dan Hospital leads with 964.15 points, followed by Gia Dinh People's Hospital and Tam Anh General Hospital. The City and Hung Vuong Children's Hospitals are also in the top 10, showing the strong development of intensiotherapy. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City has had the first 2 public hospitals to meet international quality standards: Hung Vuong (Australia standard) and Hematology Transfusion (JCI - USA).
In addition to achievements, the health sector also seriously recognizes the limitations. Some medical centers with low scores will be restructured, focusing on the role of prevention and community care. According to Dr. Chau, this is a necessary step to improve the efficiency of the grassroots health system, while strengthening people's trust in the city's health sector.
