3 children in Quang Nam died of unknown cause

Three children in the mountainous district of Nam Tra My, Quang Nam have just died, two of whom showed symptoms of diarrhea and dehydration.

On February 4, the leader of the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province, said that the authorities are investigating the cause of death of 3 children in Tra Leng commune, this district during the 2025 Tet holiday.

According to the report of Nam Tra My District Medical Center, 2/3 of the children who died were siblings: Nguyen Hoang D (born in 2018) and Nguyen Thanh Tr (born in 2022), children of Mr. Nguyen Van T (residing in Ong Thuong hamlet, village 3). These two children had diarrhea 3 days before Tet, the village medical staff came to the house to advise and guide them to the clinic but the householder did not listen. The two children suffered from dehydration and exhaustion, and died on the 1st and 2nd days of Tet.

In the third case, the baby died of unknown causes.

Nam Tra My District Medical Center added that in recent days, there have been many outbreaks of rash fever in children in Tra Leng commune.

From Tet to the afternoon of February 4, the commune and district health facilities have treated 43 children born between 2013 and 2024, with symptoms of cough, fever and rash. To date, 14 cases have recovered and been discharged from the hospital; the remaining 29 cases are being treated, newly admitted on February 3, the general condition of the children is alert, eating and drinking stably.

Among the sick children, some had not been vaccinated against measles.

The leader of the Quang Nam Department of Health said that on the afternoon of February 4, a working group from the Quang Nam Provincial Center for Disease Control went to Tra Leng commune to monitor, verify, and support the Nam Tra My District Medical Center and Tra Leng Commune Medical Station to control the situation and provide guidance and direction for further professional work.
