Turmeric is considered a golden spice thanks to curcumin being rich in antioxidants, but when combined incorrectly, turmeric can cause adverse interactions with foods, supplements and even medications. Clinical nutritionist Carrie Madormo (USA) said: "Many people believe that turmeric is absolutely safe, but some turmeric supplements contain high doses of curcumin that can affect the absorption of iron, vitamin E or cause overdose of anti- thrombocytopenic effect".

Foods and supplements that dilute blood

Turmeric has anti- thrombocytopenic purpura properties. When taken with vitamin E, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom or grape extract, the risk of bleeding and bruising increases. According to pharmacist Kristie Reed, PharmD Cleveland Clinic, this combination can reduce the body's natural ability to clot, which is especially dangerous for people taking anticoagulants.

Curcumin may help lower blood sugar slightly over time. However, consuming with cinnamon, ginger, fenugreek, ashwagandha, burnt rice flowers, star apple or chrome can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar. Common manifestations include shakiness, rapid heartbeat, and eyelids which are especially likely to occur in older adults or housewives with irregular schedules.

Supplements that harm the liver

High turmeric leaves in the form of tablets can cause liver damage when combined with similar risk factors: kava, black snake root, held fruit or green tea extract. Experts recommend prioritizing turmeric in daily cooking, not using any haphazardly drinking turmeric to "enhance health".

Reduces iron absorption from food

Turmeric can hinder the absorption of iron from red meat, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, beans or iron-fortified cereals. This is especially important for postpartum women, people with anemia, or children who need iron supplements.

In the family, turmeric is still a good spice, but for safety, expert Carrie Madormo recommends: "If you take turmeric pillows every day, report to your doctor to avoid interacting with blood pressure drugs, immunosuppressants or anti-inflammatory drugs". Using turmeric properly not only protects health but also helps family meals become more complete and safer.
