In Quang Nam province, there was a death at home with symptoms of high fever and rash. The victim was a student at Tra Don Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province. In the same area, many other cases with similar signs of disease have also been recorded.
On March 12, the Department of Prevention and Control (Ministry of Health) informed about the situation of cases in Nam Tra My district. Accordingly, from January 25, 2025 to March 10, 2025, Nam Tra My district recorded 255 cases of children with fever symptoms and rashes, and were admitted and treated at medical facilities.
Currently, 104 cases are being treated, of which 59 are children at Nam Tra My Medical Center, 35 are children at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, and 10 are children at the Health Stations. The common condition of children is alertness, reduced fever, coughing, and being able to eat. There are 149 cases recovered. 2 deaths. Test results showed 19 cases positive for measles virus.
Previously, the District Health Center coordinated with the Provincial Center for Disease Control to send samples of suspected measles rash fever cases and 19 cases were confirmed positive for measles virus.

From February 26, 2025, the child had symptoms of cough, high fever, and diarrhea, but the family did not take him to the doctor, only to worship at the house. After many days, the child exhausted and died at 5:00 p.m. on March 5, 2025. Currently, family members are in stable health and have no signs of illness.
The second case is baby H.T.N.D (born on November 13, 2015) in village 2, Tra Don commune, Nam Tra My district.
Children with cough, fever, diarrhea from March 2, 2025, stay home from school. The family is in difficult circumstances and does not take the child to the doctor. After that, the child exhausted and died at 4:00 a.m. on March 9, 2025.
The Department of Prevention and Control believes that the rash fever cases in Nam Tra My are likely related to measles. The two deaths occurred at home because the family did not take the child to the hospital for timely treatment.
Because Nam Tra My is a mountainous district, with difficult travel conditions and low vaccination rates, people still have outdated customs such as worshiping when sick, and the risk of the epidemic will continue to be complicated in the coming time. The interruption of vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic and the shortage of vaccines in 2023 also contribute to creating an immune gap in the community.
Immediately after recording the cases, the Department of Disease Prevention directed the Department of Health to urgently investigate and verify the cases and directed medical units in the area to focus on coordinating the drastic implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures.
Activate the epidemic prevention system: A rapid response team has been mobilized to Tra Leng and Tra Don communes and neighboring areas to investigate, verify cases, isolate and prevent the epidemic from spreading.
Training and direction of health care at district and commune levels: Nam Tra My District Medical Center has increased human resources, ensuring admission, isolation and treatment according to the Ministry of Health's schedule.
Strengthen communication: Instruct people to recognize symptoms of fever, cough, rash to go to medical facilities for timely examination and treatment, to avoid spreading in the community.
Ensuring nutrition for children with illnesses: Local units have organized the provision of nutritional congee and milk to support children's health recovery.
Review and implement vaccination: Measles - rubella vaccination campaign for children aged 1-10 years is being accelerated, with the goal of comprehensive vaccination in March 2025. In Nam Tra My district, 47.4% of children have been vaccinated, Tra Don commune alone has reached 87.69%.
