Jowar, also known as sorghum, is a grain known for its high nutritional value. It is rich in fiber, protein and essential nutrients such as iron, calcium and B vitamins.

1. Jowar cake
Ingredient:
- Jowar powder: 1 cup
- Warm water
- A little salt
Method:
- Put jowar powder and a little salt in a bowl and mix well.
- Add a little warm water and knead into a soft dough.
- Divide dough into small balls.
- Use a rolling pin to roll each dough ball into a round, flat cake.
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat and fry the cakes on both sides until golden brown.
- Serve hot with curry or vegetables.
2. Jowar salad
Ingredient:
- Cooked jowar seeds: 1 cup
- Chopped cucumber: 1/2 cup
- Chopped tomatoes: 1/2 cup
- Finely chopped onion: 1/4 cup
- Chopped bell pepper: 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice: 1 spoon
- Olive oil: 1 spoon
- Salt and pepper: to taste
- Fresh herbs (parsley or cilantro)
Method:
- Mix jowar, cucumber, tomato, onion and bell pepper well.
- Drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil.
- Season with salt and pepper, then mix well.
- Garnish with herbs and serve.
3. Jowar porridge
Ingredient:
- Jowar powder: 1/4 cup
- Water or milk: 2 cups
- Palm sugar or honey: 1 tablespoon
- Cardamom powder: a pinch
- Nuts and raisins
Method:
- Mix jowar powder with water or milk to form a smooth mixture.
- Boil over low heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
- Add palm sugar or honey and cardamom powder to create sweetness.
- Cook for a few more minutes until completely cooked.
- Decorate with nuts and raisins before serving.
4. Jowar soup
Ingredient:
- Jowar seeds: 1/4 cup
- Finely chopped vegetables (carrots, celery, onions): 1 cup
- Garlic: 2 cloves, chopped
- Vegetable broth: 3 cups
- Salt and pepper: to taste
- Olive oil: 1 spoon
- Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley): for decoration
Method:
- Soak jowar seeds for a few hours, then drain.
- Heat olive oil and saute garlic and onion until fragrant.
- Add chopped vegetables and stir-fry for a few minutes.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and bring to a boil.
