The life-and-death race with the cooperation of 2 hospitals saved the life of a female patient with a 60-minute cardiac arrest.

On August 13, Vinh Phuc General Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital saved the life of a female patient who had cardiac arrest for 60 minutes.

The 47-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital with severe left chest pain, diagnosed with a 4-hour STEMI myocardial infarction and immediately underwent stent placement. However, shortly after, the patient suddenly lost consciousness, had per per per peria and stopped circulating.

For 60 minutes, the doctors tried to squeeze the heart out of the chest, causing continuous electric shock, and finally the heart beat again. However, the patient suffered a severe heart attack, had a deep drop in blood pressure, and had to take a high dose of 3 types of vasopressors.

Recognizing the critical situation, Vinh Phuc General Hospital immediately called Bach Mai Hospital. Just 1.5 hours after receiving the information, the Ecmo team of the Intensive Care Center and the National Cardiovascular Institute arrived and set up an Ecmo system right in Vinh Phuc, temporarily replacing the heart - lung function, pulling the patient out of death.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co - Director of Bach Mai Hospital - said: "We always maintain a tight inter-hospital coordination mechanism, the crews are ready to "stand in combat" 24/7 to support nationwide when needed. After Ecmo was established, the patient was transferred to Bach Mai Intensive Care Center for multi-special treatment, overcoming heart shock and severe infection. After only 4 days, Ecmo was successfully withdrawn; after 14 days, the patient recovered, heart function improved significantly and was discharged from the hospital in a stable state".

Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co emphasized that Ecmo is not only a machine but a combination of a system of well-trained organizations and people and a standardized process. The case in Vinh Phuc is proof that, with timely support from the central level and the determination of the locality, high technology can be completely deployed at the provincial level.
