Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) announced the above information at the International Conference "Update on diagnosis and treatment of sinus and head and neck diseases" held on November 23-24 at Hong Ngoc General Hospital - Phuc Truong Minh.
According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, in Vietnam, sinusitis is increasing uncontrollably in big cities. Pollution causes the rate of allergic rhinitis to increase, if not treated promptly, it can lead to sinusitis. There are many causes of sinusitis such as: allergies, viruses, bacteria, chemicals, environment... The cold season has many factors that increase the risk of sinusitis, including sudden changes in weather.
Due to the long-term, persistent nature of the disease, sinusitis greatly affects the health and quality of life of the patient. Due to lack of knowledge, a large number of people have misconceptions about sinusitis, leading to the phenomenon that when signs of the disease appear, people are afraid to go to medical facilities for examination, but instead seek out word-of-mouth methods or buy Western medicine for treatment. These actions not only put patients at risk of losing money on fake medicines, but can even cause dangerous complications.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Ky - Vice President - General Secretary of the Hanoi and Northern Provinces Otorhinolaryngology Association said: "Currently, the treatment of sinus and head and neck diseases is increasingly complicated, requiring high requirements in both expertise and technique. Therefore, updating new medical and technological advances is extremely necessary, not only helping doctors improve their diagnostic and treatment capacity but also contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, better meeting the health care needs of the people".
"The most prominent is chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP), a chronic condition that causes persistent and bothersome symptoms such as nasal congestion, loss of smell, and headaches, severely affecting the patient's quality of life. CRSwNP is difficult to treat because of its high risk of recurrence, forcing physicians to search for treatments that are both effective and can control symptoms long-term.
Another important factor in sinus treatment is accurate imaging diagnosis to determine the condition and then develop an appropriate treatment plan. Currently, modern imaging technologies such as CT and MRI have allowed doctors to have a more detailed view of the sinus structure and internal abnormalities," said Associate Professor Le Minh Ky.
Scientists presented advanced methods in treating chronic sinusitis and handling complicated complications of endoscopic sinus surgery such as cerebrospinal fluid leakage, along with effective treatment techniques for frontal sinus disease...
