How does overwork affect cardiovascular health?

Overwork causes fatigue and affects overall health. Below are the dangers of overwork on the cardiovascular system.

How does overwork affect the heart?

According to a study in the Lancet journal, after analyzing data from more than 60,000 people from the US, Europe and Australia, people who work more than 55 hours a week have a 33% higher risk of stroke and a 13% higher risk of coronary heart disease.

Similarly, a global study conducted by the World Health Organization and the International Labor Organization found that people who worked more than 55 hours per week had a 35% higher risk of stroke and a 17% higher risk of death from ischemic heart disease (compared to people who worked the standard 35-40 hours per week).

According to Dr. Vaibhav MishraKhi (India), working too much causes us to form bad habits that are harmful to the heart such as:

Eat in a hurry

Due to busy work, many people often eat in a hurry. When this becomes a habit, it will cause many harmful effects to health.

Eating fast and not paying attention to diet causes people to take in more unhealthy fats and eat less fruits and vegetables. This habit leads to excessive weight gain, which is very harmful to cardiovascular health.

Sedentary lifestyle

Due to busy schedules, many people spend most of their time at their desks. Sitting for long hours means little or no exercise, a lifestyle that has a very negative impact on cardiovascular health.

Sleep little and not well

Being too busy leaves you stressed and not getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep can also cause physiological and hormonal changes that increase blood pressure, which can increase your risk of heart disease.

Learn bad habits

Overwork and constant stress can lead to bad habits like drinking and smoking. These bad habits can wreak havoc on your heart health.

No time for health check

Being too busy with work makes many people tend to ignore the symptoms of heart disease because they do not have time to pay attention to some unusual signs in the body. If left unattended, heart disease can progress to stroke.
