Eating tips to help reduce uric acid, prevent gout attacks

A reasonable diet can help control uric acid, reduce the risk of recurrence and support the prevention of gout attacks.

Drinking enough 2-3 liters of water per day is one of the most important measures to increase uric acid excretion through the kidneys. This is a natural and safe way to reduce blood uric acid through the mechanism of promoting blood flow through the kidneys, creating favorable conditions to help the kidneys filter and excrete uric acid. In addition, drinking plenty of water every day also helps dilute uric acid levels in urine, preventing uric acid precipitation and kidney stones formation.

Drinking enough water, limiting purine-rich foods, alcohol, and sugary drinks are dietary changes that can help control uric acid and reduce the risk of gout attacks.

One of the simple habits that helps support uric acid excretion is to stay hydrated. When the body is not dehydrated, the kidneys have better conditions to excrete uric acid through urine. Gout guidelines also recommend that patients avoid dehydration and drink enough fluids during the day.

Instead of drinking a large amount of water in a short time, it should be divided into many times and drunk regularly throughout the day. The amount of water needed depends on physical condition, weather and exercise level. People with kidney disease, heart failure or who are being asked by a doctor to limit water consumption need to consult a professional before increasing their water intake.

A glass of warm water in the morning can be an easy habit to start a new day and replenish fluids for the body. However, warm water should not be seen as a direct method to reduce uric acid; the important factor is still to maintain enough water throughout the day.
