Citrus fruits
Vitamin C-rich fruits like oranges, grapefruits, and lemons help produce white blood cells and protect lung tissue from oxidative stress. Additionally, oral vitamin C supplements may help with symptoms of acute respiratory infections, according to a study published in Advances in Integrative Medicine.
Garlic
A study published in the Trends in Food Science & Technology said that garlic has antibacterial and antiviral properties, helping to fight inflammation and enhance the immune system.
Turmeric
Curcumin found in turmeric helps strengthen the respiratory system, preventing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome and allergic asthma, a study published in the journal Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology said.
Foods rich in Omega-3
Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation reduces lung inflammation and improves respiratory function, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health. Foods rich in omega-3s, such as salmon, mackerel, walnuts, and flaxseeds, may reduce lung inflammation and support immune function.
Green tea
Drinking green tea twice a day reduces the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in older adults, according to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition.
Yogurt
Yogurt provides beneficial bacteria, boosts the immune system and reduces inflammation. It also has a protective effect against respiratory infections, according to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition.
