Dr Basavaraj S Kumbar, Consultant Internal Medicine, Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru (India) explains that in many cases, two patients may be diagnosed with the same disease, but their recovery process may differ due to many factors, including genetics, existing medical conditions, general health status, lifestyle or even attitude towards the disease.
How to ensure your body recovers faster after illness
To ensure a better recovery, it is important to take proactive steps, including following your treatment plan, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, getting enough sleep, reducing stress through meditation or yoga, building a support network, maintaining a positive mindset, and setting realistic goals…
Diet and nutrition are essential elements in recovery, and people who focus on a balanced, nutrient-rich diet often recover more effectively, says Dr Basavaraj S Kumbar.
“Amino acid proteins help repair tissues lost during illness, while vitamins C and D boost the immune system. Drinking enough water should not be overlooked as it helps improve blood circulation and speeds up cell repair,” says Dr Basavaraj S Kumbar.
You can also move around and exercise, which can speed up the recovery process. In people recovering from certain surgeries or respiratory infections, simple movements help maintain blood circulation and prevent muscle atrophy.
“For people who are bedridden, guided physical therapy can help keep muscles active and improve blood flow, supporting a faster recovery,” notes Dr. Kumbar.
