Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Ninh Binh facility will welcome patients from July 10th.
On June 30, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said that July 10, 2026 will mark an important milestone in the development of the regional health sector when Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Ninh Binh facility officially goes into operation.
This is considered an important step forward to expand the high-quality healthcare network, bringing medical examination and treatment services and specialized techniques closer to the people of Ninh Binh as well as neighboring provinces.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the goal of the new facility is to reduce the burden on central hospitals, while creating conditions for people in Ninh Binh, Hung Yen and the Northern Delta region to access high-quality medical services right in their localities. The 1,000-bed medical facility is expected to contribute to reducing the burden on central hospitals, bringing high-tech surgical services closer to the people of Ninh Binh and the Northern Delta region.
In the initial phase, the hospital will operate on the principle of ensuring absolute safety for patients, prioritizing the deployment of specialties with large medical examination and treatment needs such as emergency, orthopedic trauma, spine, digestive surgery and some other specialties of surgery. Putting these specialties into operation will help people access high-quality surgical services without having to transfer to Hanoi, thereby reducing travel time and costs.
Although designed with a scale of 1,000 beds, the hospital will be implemented in stages, initially putting into operation about 300 beds to effectively use resources. The scale will continue to be expanded according to actual medical examination and treatment needs.
Currently, the hospital has completed preparations for personnel, equipment and operating plans, with about 400 doctors arranged to work alternately at the new facility. The final legal procedures are being completed," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung said.
Putting the new facility into operation is not only a development milestone for Viet Duc Friendship Hospital but also contributes to improving healthcare capacity for the region. People will have the opportunity to access modern medical services right in their locality, enjoy advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, and reduce pressure on upper-level hospitals.
The journey of more than a decade to bring the project to the finish line
The Viet Duc Friendship Hospital project, facility 2 and Bach Mai Hospital, facility 2, were approved by the Ministry of Health in 2014 with a scale of 1,000 beds per hospital, with a total investment of nearly 10,000 billion VND.
The Viet Duc Friendship Hospital project, facility 2, is built on a land area of more than 21 hectares in Ninh Binh, with a total floor area of nearly 120,000 m2 and a total investment of nearly 5,000 billion VND. According to the initial plan, phase I was expected to be completed in February 2016 and the entire project to be completed by the end of 2017.
The hospital is oriented to become a modern, synchronous surgical center, focusing on developing key specialties such as orthopedic trauma, neurosurgery, brain surgery, head-face-neck surgery, thoracic surgery, spinal surgery, emergency surgery, intensive care and outpatient emergency care. With a modern equipment system and a team of highly qualified doctors and nurses, this facility is expected to become a center for treating severe and high-tech cases in the region.
Meanwhile, the Bach Mai Hospital facility 2 project is built on an area of more than 20 hectares, with a scale of 1,000 beds, a total floor area of nearly 120,000 m2, and a total investment of nearly 5,000 billion VND. The hospital is oriented as a modern general facility, capable of receiving and treating severe cases in the fields of cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, kidney - urology, respiratory medicine and many other specialties.
However, after starting construction, both projects encountered many problems with capital, planning and equipment, causing progress to be prolonged and construction to be temporarily suspended for many years.
In the period 2024 - 2025, the Government and the Ministry of Health have drastically directed solutions to remove difficulties, mobilizing contractors to focus on completing the project. By the end of 2025, the basic construction volume has been completed by over 98%.
On December 19, 2025, the inauguration ceremony of the construction of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital facility 2 was officially held in Ninh Binh.
By mid-2026, the Government will continue to issue special mechanisms to remove obstacles in equipment, finance and personnel, creating conditions for hospitals to complete the preparation for receiving patients.
According to the plan, from July 10, 2026, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Ninh Binh facility will officially receive patients with an initial scale of about 300 beds. In the following phases, the hospital will expand its scale according to actual needs, aiming to fully operate 1,000 beds, becoming a high-tech surgical center of the region, contributing to reducing the burden on the main facility in Hanoi and improving the quality of healthcare for people.
On June 26, 2026, Bach Mai Hospital, Ninh Binh facility, went into operation.
