Sorbitol in Kera vegetable candy violates labeling regulations
The National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene testing has announced the latest testing results for Kera vegetable candy products. Accordingly, this candy contains up to 33.4g of Sorbitol sweetener per 100g of product. It is worth mentioning that this ingredient is not listed on packaging labels - a serious violation of regulations on food information disclosure.
Sorbitol is a non-odor, slightly sweet alcohol (about 60% of the sweetness of sugarcane), completely dissolved in water and wine. In nature, Sorbitol is present in many fruits such as apples, pears, plums, peaches, etc., but is currently mainly industrial production from glucose through the process of hydrogenation with nickel catching.
In the US, Sorbitol has been used in the food industry since 1929 and is classified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as Received as safe (GRAS). The FDA allows foods to contain up to 7% Sorbitol.
