According to a report by the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), from the beginning of 2026 to August 9, the whole city recorded 1,308 cases of dengue fever in 115/126 communes and wards, with no deaths recorded.
Faced with the increasing situation of dengue fever, people's proactive need for disease prevention has also made the market for mosquito repellent drugs, chemicals and mosquito repellent products more vibrant in recent weeks.
Recorded at a mosquito repellent store on Nguyen Chi Thanh street (Giang Vo ward, Hanoi), mosquito sprays, mixed spray chemicals and insecticides are sold diversely, with many price levels.
According to the seller, the demand for mosquito repellent products usually increases when the weather is humid and rainy, creating favorable conditions for mosquitoes to develop and increasing the risk of dengue fever. "In recent weeks, the number of people looking to buy mosquito repellent has increased significantly. On average, about 8-9 families buy repellent themselves to spray every day. In some residential groups and wards, chemical spraying for epidemic prevention and control has been proactively implemented," the seller said.

At another store on Tang Bat Ho street (Hai Ba Trung ward, Hanoi), the seller said that the demand for mosquito repellent at this time is relatively high. Products have different characteristics and instructions for use, including types that are introduced as having almost no smell or causing little irritation. Some products are priced at about 95,000 VND/bottle of 100 ml, the import price of some types is said to have increased by about 5,000 VND/bottle.
In Hong Ha ward (Hanoi) from the beginning of the year to now, 22 cases of dengue fever and 1 outbreak have been recorded. In the past two weeks alone, the locality recorded 4 more cases, of which 2 are being treated.
Faced with this development, Ms. Pham Thi Lan, Hong Ha ward, proactively cleaned her house, sprayed mosquito repellent in areas where mosquitoes often hide such as under beds, under cabinets, hidden corners in the house and backyard areas with many trees. According to Ms. Lan, families with elderly people and young children should proactively implement mosquito prevention measures early to reduce the risk of dengue fever.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Vu Huy - Senior Lecturer of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hanoi Medical University, before the risk of infection caused by mosquitoes, many people actively buy mosquito repellent to spray at home. However, doctors recommend using chemicals correctly to ensure effectiveness and safety.
“Before spraying mosquito repellent, it is necessary to open all doors and windows for air circulation; cover food carefully, cover water containers tightly and arrange belongings neatly. Pets also need to be moved out of the spraying area.
While spraying, people need to temporarily leave the house and spraying area for at least 30 minutes to let the medicine dry, and at the same time avoid inhaling chemical vapors. Absolutely do not follow the person spraying the medicine. For young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with underlying diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, they should stay outside for about 1-2 hours before returning.
After spraying, it is necessary to clean up the house and items to limit exposure to chemicals. People can live normally afterwards. The appropriate time to spray is early morning or late afternoon, when dengue fever transmitting mosquitoes are active," the doctor advised.
