The cold weather has caused a significant increase in the number of myocardial infarction cases at the Department of adults with Cardiovascular Diseases (Hospital E). Many elderly patients are hospitalized with severe chest pain, the pain often occurs at night.
Patient Do Thi Lo (80 years old, Lai Chau) has a history of high blood pressure, is examined and given medicine regularly according to health insurance. For about a month now, she often has chest pain when trying, even even even walking has caused pain.

"Before being admitted to the hospital, I had severe chest pain that spread to my neck and left shoulder. My family took me to Lai Chau General Hospital for examination and found out that I had a heart attack and was transferred to E Hospital for emergency treatment," said Ms. Lo.
According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Department of adults' Cardiology, E Hospital, "The patient was admitted in a state of non-sterococcal heart attack, heart disease that suggested severe damage to many branches of the coronary artery, heart enzymes increased very high, Troponin T concentration over 1,000 ng/L. The intervention team was immediately activated. The coronary scans showed severe damage to all three artery branches, in which the front interventricular branch was the culprit. The patient had an ultrasound in the coronary artery and a stent, and the intervention was successful."

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Doan Bay (Phu Tho) had high blood pressure but was not strictly controlled. Recently, he often has chest pain at work and then it hurts even at rest. Tests showed increased heart enzymes (Troponin T over 300 ng/L), heart disease suggests coronary artery disease. With typical symptoms, Mr. Bay was assigned to be hospitalized for timely survey and intervention.
"High blood pressure is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease. In particular, cold weather and stress factors can cause coronary artery contractions or make the plaque of atherosclerosis unstable, thereby leading to clogged arteries," Dr. Duong emphasized.
Doctors recommend that the elderly and people with cardiovascular disease absolutely do not be subjective during cold weather. Maintaining regular check-ups, controlling blood pressure, adhering to medication and early detection of unusual breast pain are important in preventing heart attack. Proactively protecting health, especially in the cold season, will help reduce the risk of dangerous complications and improve the quality of life for patients.
