At the 5th Vietnam Community Nutrition Day program organized by the Health and Life Newspaper - Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health said: The 5th Vietnam Community Nutrition Day is organized in the context of the work of people's health care continuing to receive deep and comprehensive attention with new strategic orientations issued in Resolution 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo "On some breakthrough solutions, strengthening protection, care and improving people's health".
According to Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan, along with the development of science and technology, we have a deeper understanding of meals and nutrition. From there, each person needs to think about each meal not only to warm the stomach and feel full, but also to eat to create a premise for good physical, physical, mental and health development for each individual, and further for the whole nation.
The Deputy Minister of Health quoted the saying: "A disease comes from the mouth". "That means if we eat and drink improperly, it can be lacking or excess, then it will cause disease. For example, vitamin A deficiency will cause dry eyes and malnutrition.
Similarly, if we eat too much, we will be overweight, obese, and have the consequences of a series of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, metabolic disorders, diabetes and many other diseases" - Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan said.
According to the Deputy Minister, the above non-communicable diseases alone account for over 80% of the mortality rate. If nutrition alone is unreasonable, data from the World Health Organization shows that up to 45% of deaths in children under 5 years old are due to nutrition (including low coronation, obesity).
In general, the mortality rate from united nutrition worldwide is about 10.6%. These figures demonstrate the extremely important role of nutrition and diet in both ensuring health, physical and mental development and preventing diseases.
Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan said that the work of protecting, caring for and improving people's health in general, and disease prevention in particular, has received great attention from the Party, the State, the Government, the Ministry of Health and ministries and branches.
Recently, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 72 on a number of breakthrough solutions, strengthening protection, care and improving people's health, highlighting the role of nutrition in disease prevention.
"We also innovate the mindset of shifting focus from treatment to disease prevention, including the field of nutrition. Resolution No. 72 clearly states the role of reasonable nutrition throughout the life cycle, including the nutritional portion factor to suit the age, physical condition, and cultural economic conditions of each region of the Vietnamese people. That means that today's healthy meal is preparation for a healthier, happier future" - said the Deputy Minister.
The Deputy Minister said that this is not only a communication event but also a journey to sow the habit of living well, living proactively, and living responsibly with the health of oneself and one's loved ones.
