When is the best time to drink kombucha?
Kombucha, a carbonated fermented tea, is popular with many people because of its ability to support digestion and increase energy. Although there is no research to confirm the golden time to drink, according to nutritionist Melissa Nieves at Menonita Caguas Hospital (Puerto Rico): "The morning or early afternoon is the time when the body absorbs the natural caffeine in kombucha well, helping to increase alertness without causing fatigue like coffee".
In addition, drinking kombucha in meals can aid digestion by containing probiotics and antioxidants that help balance the intestinal microflora. Some people also like to drink on an empty stomach to increase nutrient absorption, but Nieves recommends listening to the body, avoiding drinking too much or on an empty stomach for a long time.
Potential benefits and notes when using
According to nutritionist Brittany Lubeck, kombucha provides B vitamins, polyphenols and organic acids that have anti-inflammatory properties, reduce cholesterol and improve liver function. A small study showed that obese people who drank kombucha for 8 weeks had a significant improvement in their gut microbiome. In addition, kombucha can help stabilize blood sugar and support immune health thanks to beneficial bacteria.
However, consumers should pay attention to the origin of the product. Self-fermented Kombucha can be contaminated if fermented under poor conditions. This drink is only really beneficial when it is produced cleanly, controlling acidity properly, Nieves noted.
Pregnant women, people with weak immune systems or young children should not take kombucha. If you have symptoms such as dizziness, nausea or headache, stop using it and consult your doctor.
Kombucha is a healthy choice if used properly. Drinking in the morning, with meals or following your circadian rhythm can bring benefits to your energy and digestive system. But like any superfood, the important thing is quality and dosage, don't let good drinks become a burden to your health.
