Regarding the case of 6 patients being poisoned by alcohol, on April 1, Cho Ray Hospital informed that the 25-year-old patient died at noon the same day with a diagnosis of severe methanol poisoning, metabolic complications, multiple organ damage, cerebral edema causing brain decline, and circulatory respiratory failure.
Previously, on the morning of April 1, this patient was still in a deep coma, showing clinical signs of brain death. The results of brain power measurement showed that the waves were slow to spread, did not respond to stimulation, and were suitable for brain death. brain MRI scan showed widespread brain damage, cerebral edema, suspected subcranial tonsil failure.
Consulting with specialists from the Department of Internal Medicine, Emergency Resuscitation (ICU), and Imaging Diagnosis, all agreed that there was no way to treat and predict death. The treatment team explained to the relatives. However, because the family wished to continue providing emergency care, they took him home when he died.
According to Dr. Le Quoc Hung - Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases, all patients had high methanol levels exceeding the measurement threshold, so the test only had results greater than 100 mg/dL. Therefore, all 6 patients were in a state of extremely severe poisoning.
Thanks to the early detection of a person in the group being seriously ill, all 6 patients were taken to the emergency room. If the emergency blood filtration takes place in about 2-3 hours, the condition of the remaining 5 patients could be much worse, potentially life-threatening.
Previously, on March 30, Cho Ray Hospital continuously received 6 patients with methanol alcohol poisoning in critical condition. Medical history shows that the 6 people were all from a group living in Tien Giang province traveling together in Ninh Thuan province. On March 29, 6 people drank a fruit wine, produced in Tien Giang.
After drinking about 6 bottles of wine, each bottle 500ml, nearly 6 hours later, the patients showed signs of digestive disorders, vomiting... However, they did not go to the hospital for examination because they thought they were drunk. On March 30, on the way from Ninh Thuan back to Tien Giang, the patients had increasingly severe symptoms, including the youngest patient (25 years old) who fell into a state of drowsiness.
After that, 6 people were taken to Can Giuoc District Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment.
