On July 22, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard said that in especially dangerous weather conditions due to the impact of storm No. 3, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard bravely overcame big waves and successfully rescued a soldier with excess intestinal pain on Me Island on the night of July 21.
At about 7:45 p.m. the same day, the Me Island Joint Stock Battalion - Defense Command of Region 5 (Tinh Gia) sent an urgent telegram to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard, requesting support for vehicles to take a soldier with excess intestinal inflammation to the mainland for emergency care. The patient was the soldier of Truong Quang Tung, who was on duty on the island when he experienced severe pain in the abdomen. Military doctors on the island determined that the intestinal inflammation was acute and required emergency surgery.
Immediately after receiving the information, Colonel Do Ngoc Vinh, Commander of the Provincial Border Guard, reported and received direct instructions from the Border Guard Command, urgently mobilizing the frog ship BP 050101 of the 2nd Border Guard Squadron commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Trong Tai, along with 12 officers and soldiers to depart for their mission.

In the middle of the night, there was heavy rain, big waves, strong gusts of wind due to the circulation of storm No. 3, the rescue ship had great difficulty moving. When approaching the Me Island area, due to strong waves, the ship could not dock. In an urgent situation, the commander decided to stop the ship in a safe location, using a high-speed low-boat crane and a mobile working group to approach the island by small boat.
Overcoming each strong wave, the rescue team took the soldiers onto a boat, moved them to a large ship, and then returned to the mainland. At about 10:30 p.m. the same day, the ship docked at the Border Guard Squadron 2 port. Here, medical staff and ambulances were ready to receive and transfer the victim to the upper level for timely treatment.
