On August 15, Nghe An Oncology Hospital coordinated with the Vietnam Cancer Society and Nghe An Department of Health to organize the Xth Scientific Conference of Nghe An Oncology Hospital, with the theme "Application of precision medicine in cancer diagnosis and treatment: From research to practice".
The conference gathered nearly 50 units, more than 700 delegates and 135 speakers, including 3 foreign experts. The program includes 1 full session and 9 specialized sessions, focusing on updating new advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment and care.
Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health - said that cancerology is undergoing an unprecedented stage of development with increasingly accurate diagnostic methods, increasingly sophisticated techniques and increasingly intelligent treatment drugs. However, according to the Deputy Minister, what is more important is how far those advances have actually changed patients' lives.
For patients, the value of medicine does not lie in how much more technology we have, but in something much simpler: whether the disease is prevented earlier, detected earlier, treated more effectively, and whether patients have more years of healthy and quality life," Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan emphasized.
According to Mr. Thuan, GLOBOCAN 2024 estimates that Vietnam has more than 177,000 new cancer cases and about 111,000 deaths from cancer. Therefore, to reduce mortality, the fight against cancer must begin before people become patients, through prevention, risk factors control, vaccination, screening and early detection.
The Deputy Minister of Health believes that the orientation of cancer prevention and control in the coming period must be built into a continuous chain, from disease prevention, screening, early detection, accurate diagnosis, effective treatment to nutrition, rehabilitation, palliative care and long-term monitoring.
At the conference, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan requested Nghe An Oncology Hospital to continue to improve its level to become a reputable specialized oncology center of the North Central region; develop precision medicine, multidisciplinary consultation, data and scientific research in a practical direction, taking treatment effectiveness as a measure.
At the plenary session, the conference had reports on new radiation therapy technologies and applications; preliminary results and priority orientations for breast cancer prevention and control; ASCO 2026 update; advanced radiation therapy techniques and data on diagnosis, treatment and survival time of non-small cell lung cancer patients.
Specialized sessions focus on breast, head, neck, thoracic cancer, gastroenterology - liver and gallbladder, gynecology, urology, hematology - pathology - molecular biology, nuclear medicine - radiation therapy - diagnostic imaging, palliative treatment - nursing - nutrition.
Within the framework of the conference, Nghe An Oncology Hospital was re-granted the Certificate of Good Clinical Dosage Practice (GCP) establishment issued by the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health.
