Army lieutenant suffers from a serious illness
At the end of the year, when comrades and teammates were diligently completing their tasks, Lieutenant Tran Viet Luong (working at the Policy Department, Political Department - Dak Lak Provincial Military Command) had to be hospitalized.
Born in 1996, Mr. Luong graduated and joined the army 3 years ago. Like many other young people, he entered the military environment with the dream of becoming an excellent soldier. However, an unexpected tragedy happened to him.
Mr. Luong shared: "In 2021, I discovered that I had bone marrow failure - a serious disease. The cost of treatment and medicine is extremely expensive, while my family is facing difficulties. For nearly 4 years, my parents and siblings have borrowed about 1 billion VND from everywhere to treat me, but the disease has not improved yet."
Mr. Luong's life seemed hopeless, as the terrible disease tormented his health and spirit. But then, a ray of light suddenly appeared in his life.
In 2023, his first love, Ms. Dau Thi Chung, agreed to his marriage proposal, despite her serious illness.
Ms. Chung emotionally said: "We loved each other for 9 years, and decided to get married even though we knew Mr. Luong was seriously ill. My family was worried because he was in poor health and had an unforeseen illness. But because I loved Mr. Luong so much, I was still determined to be together."
Mr. Luong and Ms. Chung's marriage soon bore fruit, when they welcomed their first son. Their child is now nearly 1 year old, the joy and hope of the young couple in a life full of challenges.
Lying on a hospital bed at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (Hanoi), Mr. Luong choked up as he shared: "My newborn baby has not seen his father many times. I have to continuously receive treatment in Hanoi. Every night I miss my wife and child, I cannot sleep."
"My wife's job is unstable and she is currently raising our child in a boarding house in Buon Ma Thuot. I just hope that her condition will improve soon so that I can return to work and help ease the difficulties for my wife, children and parents," Mr. Luong hopes.
Need help
Paralyzed 25 years ago, Mr. Tran Van Linh's health in M'Drak district, Dak Lak province is now increasingly deteriorating.
Looking at the picture of his son lying on the hospital bed, Mr. Linh choked up even more: "My family has three children. Luong is the eldest son, the two younger brothers are financially independent but have unstable jobs. We have tried every way to treat and provide medicine for our son, but his condition has not improved."
According to Mr. Linh, Luong is currently being treated in Hanoi, and only his youngest daughter is staying to take care of him. He and his wife are in the countryside, working hard every day to earn money to pay for their son's hospital fees, but it's not much. Each day, the son's hospital fees are about 3 to 5 million VND.
Through research, it is known that the cost to completely cure Mr. Luong's illness, including bone marrow transplant and health recovery, is up to 1.3 - 3 billion VND. The whole family is looking forward to the help of benefactors, philanthropists and charity organizations to help Mr. Luong overcome the dangerous situation.
A representative of the Policy Department, Political Department - Dak Lak Provincial Military Command said: "Mr. Tran Viet Luong is working at the unit and is currently receiving treatment in Hanoi. Mr. Luong is in difficult circumstances. The staff in the unit have called for donations to help him with additional treatment costs. However, that amount is still not enough, because the cost of completely treating Mr. Luong is too great."
