On January 1, 2025, Ms. Ma Thi Xoa took her mother, Ms. Thao Thi Chu (born in 1976, residing in Mo Da village, Xuan Hoa commune, Lao Cai province) for medical examination. Holding the doctor's conclusion on her mother's stage 3 cervical cancer in her hand, Ms. Xoa could not help but be shocked and in pain.
In February 2025, Ms. Xoa began her journey to treat her mother at K Hospital (Tan Trieu facility, Hanoi) with 6 doses of chemicals and 25 doses of radiotherapy according to the hospital's regimen.
However, the disease had spread to the bones, causing her to lose the ability to walk and had to be treated 24/7 in the hospital's Department of Musculoskeletal.
Currently, Ms. Chu has just undergone surgery and is waiting for bone metastasis treatment, with unpredictable costs. Her health declined, she suffered from prolonged pain, and she had poor appetite.
Each treatment stage is an additional time the family has to struggle to cover the costs of hospital fees, medicine, accommodation and travel. The total amount of money the family had to borrow to treat her illness was more than 120 million VND.
"Every time I see my mother carrying me after each pain, my heart feels tight" - Ms. Xoa said, tears rolling down.

Before the disease, Mrs. Chu's family's income depended only on an excavator as a livelihood. But as soon as Mrs. Chu started to get sick, her family was forced to sell the excavator to get money for treatment. The main source of income is gone, and all expenses are increasingly piling up.
In addition to taking care of the sick, Ms. Xoa's family had to raise two elderly people who were no longer able to work. "The long days of my mother in the hospital caused the family's economy to fall into a state of exhaustion. Currently, my mother is still waiting for treatment for bone metastasis, and the huge upcoming cost makes the whole family worried" - Ms. Xoa confided.
In the locality, Ms. Chu's situation is sympathized, but the neighborhood is also difficult, only providing spiritual support or small help.
Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Pham Huu Tam - Head of Mo Da village - confirmed that Ms. Chu's family was diligent, but after nearly a year of treatment, the economy had fallen into a state of exhaustion.
"We really hope that benefactors can join hands to help Ms. Chu overcome this disaster" - Mr. Tam called.
In the simple house at the end of the village, the daughter's confidence still exists - believing that the pain will recede, so that she can return to the fields and children. But the road ahead can only continue if there are more resources to follow the treatment regimen. Each heart shared that now, no matter how small, it is another day of treatment, another dose of medicine, another opportunity for Ms. Chu.
