Ms. Nguyen Thao Vi (born in 1989, residing in Hamlet 2, Tan Bien commune, Tay Ninh province) was orphaned of both parents from a young age, living on her aunt's support. At the age of 16, she had leg pain. Thinking it was just a common disease, the family took her for examination and prescribed traditional medicine as a habit in the countryside.
However, the disease did not improve but became increasingly severe. When she was transferred to a provincial hospital and then continued to be transferred to an oncology hospital, doctors concluded that she had bone cancer and was forced to have her right leg amputated to save her life.
Listening to the doctor's consultation, I was stunned, but I couldn't do anything else. I was forced to have my right leg amputated to live," Ms. Thao Vi recalled tearfully.

After a long process of surgery and chemotherapy, she was lucky to overcome the line of life and death. However, as her aunt became increasingly old and weak, Ms. Thao Vi had to struggle to make a living herself.
During this period, she found love and once hoped for a home. But when she became pregnant, her boyfriend and his family turned their backs, not recognizing the child. She decided to give birth alone and do all kinds of jobs to raise her son to adulthood.
The tragedy did not stop there. Not long ago, Ms. Thao Vi felt pain and tightness in her chest area. Examination results showed that she had stage 3 malignant breast cancer, lymph nodes had metastasized, and the possibility of successful surgery was very low. She had to continue chemotherapy and long-term medical monitoring.
Family circumstances are difficult, many times I want to give up, give up, but thinking about my young son and not having grandparents on both sides to rely on, I have to try to live. If I leave, my son will not know where to cling to. Therefore, I have to try to live a little longer so that my son can grow up and be able to earn a living on his own, then I will be more reassured," Ms. Thao Vi said sadly.

Sharing more about her economic situation, she said that she used to have a stable house. However, for many years, trading on sidewalks to earn a living, wanting to improve her life, she borrowed capital from the bank to open a clothing store and then run a teddy bear business but continuously suffered losses. By the age of 33, she was forced to sell her house to pay off debts, then rent a room to live in.
“Currently I am 37 years old, seriously ill, I don't have money left, I only feel sorry for my son suffering along with his mother. Now I am being treated, taking chemotherapy until the 2nd prescription. Fortunately, there is a poor person's insurance, so I have reduced some expenses, but the medicine cost alone is already more than 700,000 VND.
The doctor said I needed surgery to place a heart chamber on my chest to get medicine, the cost is about more than 3 million VND. I have to pay this amount myself, but now the disease is tormenting me, my health is not good, so I cannot work.
Before, when I was healthy, I made flowers on holidays to earn money to cover living expenses, now my health is weak, making flowers is not enough to cover living expenses, let alone surgery money, thinking about it, I already feel very helpless. In the following months, I really didn't know what to do anymore, hoping to be cared for by philanthropists," Ms. Thao Vi said.
